Gayego won the $250,000 Presque Isle Mile on Friday evening and established a track record in the process. Gayego was kept to the outside by jockey Alan Garcia, just behind the pressured pace set by Black Belt. Succesful Dan, under Julien Leparoux, pressed the pace in second. On the far turn, Garcia made his move while Successful Dan took the lead. Gayego got on even terms and the two dueled in the stretch before Gayego drew clear late to win by two lengths. Running Stag got up for third, three lengths behind Successful Dan. "He is a big horse and I told the jockey to get to the outside with him at some point,"  Godolphin racing manager Rick Mettee said after the race. The running time of 1.34.90 established a track record. Gayego returned $4.40 to win. Trained by Saeed bin Suroor, Gayego came into the mile off a third in the Triple Bend at Hollywood and a fourth  the A.G. Vanderbilt at Saratoga. "The last couple times he was stuck down on the inside, and as big as he is, just couldn’t get going," Mettee said. As for further plans, said Mettee, "We have no special intentions for him at this point."
