Fiscal Policy justified her favoritism Saturday at River Downs when she drew off to a 6 1/4-length triumph in the $50,000 Bassinet Stakes. With Rex Stokes aboard, Fiscal Policy dueled three wide with two other fillies down the backstretch in the six-furlong Bassinet, then began edging clear after turning for home to easily prevail. She returned $4.20 after finishing in 1:13.40 over a fast track. “I asked my filly for some run, and she won with plenty in the tank,” said Stokes. Ruth and Neva, at 14-1 the longest shot in the field of six, finished second, with Bach Hamilton third. Sonja’s Angel, the 2-1 second choice, faded to last. Tom Amoss trains Fiscal Policy, a Florida-bred filly by Wildcat Heir, for the Klaravich Stables and W.H. Lawrence. The Bassinet followed a maiden victory at Hoosier Park for Fiscal Policy. Closing day at River in Cincinnati is Monday, with the male counterpart to the Bassinet, the $100,000 Cradle Stakes, helping to bring down the curtain.
