Contest players take note: you’re down to your final chances to qualify for next weekend’s Saratoga Betting Challenge. If you haven’t been paying attention, this year Saratoga’s contest program is experiencing a renaissance. Years ago, it was an important mythical-money tournament. A couple years back, Saratoga switched from a two-day mythical contest to two separate live-bank events, but it remained in the middle of the week and interest waned. In 2018, the Saratoga contest moves to the weekend for the first time. There will still be two separate contests. The Saratoga Challenge, a $1,000 buy-in, is Friday, Aug. 10. The first-place finisher is guaranteed $15,000 plus a seat to next year’s $10,000 Belmont Stakes Challenge. That amount is expected to grow based on participation, which is coming along well. The Fourstardave Challenge takes center stage on Saturday, Aug. 11. That event costs $2,000 to play and the winner is guaranteed at least $25,000, plus a Belmont seat for 2019. Again, the more players that show up to play the greater the prize amounts. As for this weekend’s qualifiers, each day look for a special added qualifier to win your buy-ins for Saturday. These games will cost $230, with one in 10 receiving entries worth $2,000. Additionally, on Sunday there will be a game that costs $410 to play with one in 10 entries securing a prize package worth $3,500 – that’s buy-ins for Friday and Saturday plus $500 in travel money.Saturday’s other featured game allows players to win-in to Monmouth’s Super Qualifier, a $500 live-bank event taking place at the Jersey Shore oval on Saturday, Aug. 25. The buy-in for Saturday’s qualifier is a bankroll-friendly $120, with one in 10 entries receiving their $500 buy-ins for Monmouth plus $500 in travel. The other big game Sunday is a round-one game for the Pegasus World Cup Betting Championship. It costs $220 to play with one in five entries advancing to the Grade 1 Pegasus qualifier, also taking place on Saturday, Aug. 25. The Pegasus contest is a particularly excellent opportunity for players since all the prize money is added – there is no entry fee, just a $12,000 bankroll required to play. Why put that money up when you can win it?For a full list of all the games happening this weekend, go to tournaments.drf.com.
