Fasig-Tipton plans to catalog a group of broodmares in foal on Southern Hemisphere covers for its Nov. 7 breeding stock sale, the auction house announced Tuesday. Fasig-Tipton officials say they are actively recruiting additional Southern Hemisphere-covered mares for the auction and will accept nominations through Aug. 31. This is the company’s latest move to heighten its appeal to international buyers. Fasig-Tipton recently hired Byron Rogers and John Fulton as representatives to Australasia and South America, respectively, and also cataloged yearlings by several European sires in its recent Saratoga select yearling sale. “We have been forming the concept with Byron Rogers and John Fulton and there is encouraging support from sellers here and from our representatives’ contacts in their respective areas,” Fasig-Tipton’s CEO, Boyd Browning, said of the new push to add Southern Hemisphere-covered mares “Buyers from Australia, New Zealand, and South America find it easy to evaluate these offerings, even if they do not attend the sale,” said Browning. “We are working on a number of promotional and hospitality ideas in these regions to expand our buyer base. “We intend to start carefully and test the market. The focus will be to offer a limited number of mares in a continuous sequence during our one-day sale. Race record and pedigree are what we are looking for, in mares primarily in foal to non-shuttling commercial stallions.”
