Fasig-Tipton Texas has cataloged 167 horses to its 2-year-olds in training sale that will be held at Lone Star Park near Dallas on April 5. The under-tack program will be on April 3. The start time for both the workout show and the auction will be 10 a.m. Central. The catalog features the offspring of a wide variety of stallions, including Afleet Alex, Distorted Humor, First Samurai, Indian Charlie, Lawyer Ron, Speightstown, Songandaprayer, Tapit, Tiznow, and Valid Expectations. The catalog is smaller than a year ago, when 223 lots made up the book. “I think the number just reflects the shrinkage of the market, really,” said Tim Boyce, director of sales for Fasig-Tipton Texas. “My belief is that peoples’ shortlist will have just as many horses on it this year as they had last year. “The quality of the sale is maintained. We’ve got some great horses.” Boyce said among state breeding programs, Louisiana-breds make up the largest group in the auction. Last year, a Louisiana-bred colt by Valid Expectations topped the sale when he brought $100,000. In all, 139 horses sold at last year’s auction, for an average of $17,064.
