Fasig-Tipton will expand its Midlantic 2-year-old sale at Timonium in Maryland from one to two days this year, and the auction will catalog about 600 entries, the Kentucky-based auction house announced Friday.The 2011 sale will take place May 23-24 at Timonium at 10 a.m. Eastern time. Two under-tack sessions will precede the auction on May 18-19, starting each day at 9:30 a.m.Catalogs will be available in Fasig-Tipton offices around April 22 and also will be online at the Fasig-Tipton website, www.fasigtipton.com.Fasig-Tipton trimmed the auction from two days to one in 2010. It sold 273 horses for $13,099,500,well up from its 2009 total of $10,651,000 gross for 253 horses. The 2010 average of $47,984 was 3 percent higher than in 2009, and the $27,000 median was up 13 percent. The sale-topper was a $650,000 Medaglia d’Oro-Chit Chat Pam filly, now a winner named Hailey d’Oro.
