Daddy Nose Best overcame a wall of horses to sweep past the field and win the Grade 3, $125,000 Colonel E.R. Bradley Handicap at Fair Grounds on Saturday. He was up for a neck win over Adios Nardo, while it was another half-length back in third to Speaking of Which. The Colonel Bradley was one of five stakes on a card featuring the Grade 3, $200,000 Lecomte. Daddy Nose Best ($5.80) trailed early in the about 1 1/16-mile race run on yielding turf, as String King took the field through an opening quarter in 24.41 seconds. The pacesetter was joined by Adios Nardo through a half-mile in 51.02, while Daddy Nose Best, the favorite and high weight, found himself blocked behind a wall of horses when it was time to make his bid. Jockey Rosie Napravnik was patient, and eventually angled the horse out into the stretch. Daddy Nose Best then unleashed what is becoming a patented closing run to win his fifth race in his last six starts. He covered the distance in 1:46.54. “We’re very fortunate for him to win today,” said trainer Steve Asmussen, noting both the traffic and the slow fractions the horse was caught behind. Asmussen said Daddy Nose Best will continue to be a candidate for the turf stakes at Fair Grounds, where last month he won the track’s $75,000 Buddy Diliberto Memorial with a career-high Beyer Speed Figure of 103. Daddy Nose Best earned $75,000 for his win Saturday for owners Bob and Cathy Zollars. The Colonel Bradley was the sixth stakes win of his career. Daddy Nose Best overall has won 9 of 24 starts and $942,303. He is a 5-year-old horse by Scat Daddy and  was bred in Kentucky by Patricia Ann Elia Trust.
