Princess Payton will appreciate the class relief and the cutback to a sprint when she runs in an allowance race for nonwinners of two or nonwinners-of-three Washington-breds on Saturday at Emerald Downs. The 6 1/2-furlong dash for fillies and mares drew seven horses and goes as race 7 on an eight-race card that gets under way at 2:15 p.m. Pacific. Trained by Tom Wenzel, Princess Payton was going around two turns for the first time when she finished fifth in the $75,000 Washington Oaks on Aug. 14. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Unified was well back early and never got involved in the 1 1/16-mile race, which favored speed, particularly Tiz a Macho Girl, who won for fun. The Jeff Metz-trained Tiz a Macho Girl will be among the favorites in the $75,000 British Columbia Oaks on Saturday at Hastings. The 1 1/8-mile Oaks is scheduled for 5 p.m., with the Emerald feature at 5:33 p.m. :: DRF Bets members get FREE DRF Past Performances - Formulator or Classic. Join now! Princess Payton went into the Washington Oaks off a runner-up finish at the same level and distance as this race. With Eddie Martinez aboard, Princess Payton settled early and finished with conviction but could not catch Oreo’s Dream, who forced the moderate pace set by Pearl River Delta. Being a lightly raced 3-year-old, Princess Payton should have some upside. With other speed in the field, she could get the right kind of trip. She will break from the outside post with Martinez up. Pearl River Delta, trained by Alan Bozell, is looking for her first win since she took them all the way at this level and distance July 16. In her latest start, the 4-year-old Washington-bred daughter of Abraaj sat just off the speed when she finished second in a $25,000 claimer for nonwinners of three on Sept. 3. Pearl River Delta, who has not finished worse than third in seven starts at the meet, will break from post 3 with leading rider Alex Cruz up. She figures to be in the mix from start to finish. Nana’s Angels has yet to run a bad race and could be the one they have to run down from post 4 with Juan Gutierrez aboard. Trained by Bonnie Jenne, Nana’s Angels set honest fractions on her way to a 6 3/4-length romp in a $30,000 optional maiden claimer Aug. 20 and went into the race off a runner-up finish behind Tiz a Macho Girl in a maiden special weight race July 31. In her other two starts she was the runner-up to Silvery Orb in her debut July 3 and finished second as the favorite to Princess Payton in her second start in a maiden special weight race July 17. Opal Creek is the wild card in the field. Trained by Charles Essex, the 3-year-old Kentucky-bred daughter of Midshipman is making her first start since she finished last going a mile on turf at Turf Paradise in a conditioned allowance race May 2. She began her career running on Tapeta at Woodbine, and in her only start on dirt she finished well back in the $75,000 Arizona Oaks. She has been working fast over the local strip, though, and could be dangerous from the inside post with Kevin Radke aboard.
