DRF's Horse Racing Playbook for Sunday, December 24, 2023

DRF Staff|Dec 23, 2023
Gulfstream Park dirt racing, 2018
Barbara D. Livingston First post for Gulfstream racing is scheduled for 12:10 p.m. ET on Sunday.

Daily Racing Form has served as the most trusted source of news and information about the sport since 1894, and moving forward we have decided to provide a free daily playbook – something that both hardcore horseplayers and casual observers can reference to get informed of each day’s action.

12:24 TAM 1st KHOZANDO (#3, 8-1) won back to back to back not that long ago and any horse that can do that has some talent. New barn is 22% off the claim and with a flat bet profit. We bet this guy wasn't fully acclimated to here in his most recent so we expect a move forward today. We know that he likes this surface at 10-3-2-1. If all stay in then race flow is fine. -Scott Ehlers

12:39 GP 2nd TAKE YOUR POINT (#1, 20-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

12:53 TAM 2nd FAST PAYDAY (#3, 8-1) likes it here where he has hit the exacta in half of ten starts. We bet that he needed that return try to some extent. He gets good race flow if all stay in and draws fine. He will have to break in a new pilot but that isn't a deal breaker. This barn shows a flat bet profit on the green. -Scott Ehlers

1:08 GP 3rd PAY ZONE (#5, 12-1) did little in his last two starts but was hooked in both. A softer pace resulted in a front running win only three back. Does anyone see any other speed in here? As of this writing, we spy two local works which will help this guy acclimate to south Florida. Team Walder is 18% with new runners and we like Jose Ortiz up. -Scott Ehlers

2:06 GP 5th UMBRAL (#1, 6-1) likes this surface well enough at least versus these. She draws inside and lures Saez which is great for the stretch-out. This filly should love two turns with her 403 distance Tomlinson. Her even running style going short also bodes well for the added distance. This barn is a solid 14% going sprint to route and they show a flat bet profit. -Scott Ehlers

2:50 TAM 6th CANDIDATE (#6, 6-1) is a DRF Best Bet (Scott Ehlers).

3:20 TAM 7th DAVID'S SONGS (#8, 15-1) is by a 12% debut sire (all sire stats are for 2YOs only). His dam went 9-1-2-2 and earned 39K. All 8 sibs won. Four beat winners and earned 483K, 302K (won 2YO debut), 276K, and 61K. Local works are well spaced and this homebred draws fine. -Scott Ehlers
