INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Hibaayeb, winner of the Grade 1 Yellow Ribbon Stakes in her U.S. debut at Hollywood Park on Oct. 2, will be ridden by Frankie Dettori in Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf at Churchill Downs. Simon Crisford, racing manager of Sheikh Mohammed’s Godolphin Racing, confirmed the assignment Sunday. Dettori has ridden the 3-year-old Hibaayeb in five of her 11 starts, including a victory in the Group 2 Ribblesdale Stakes for fillies and mares over 1 1/2 miles on turf at Royal Ascot in England on June 17. The Filly and Mare Turf is run over 1 3/8 miles. The Yellow Ribbon was run over 1 1/4 miles on turf. In the Yellow Ribbon, Hibaayeb was fourth in a field of nine to the three-eighths pole of that race and made steady progress to reach the front in the final sixteenth, winning by a length. Hibaayeb stayed in California after the Yellow Ribbon. In early October, there were discussions among the Godolphin team about leaving Hibaayeb in California for the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup on Nov. 13, but the decision to start in the Breeders’ Cup was made in recent days.
