DEL MAR, Calif. – General admission tickets will be available at Del Mar on Friday for the first time this summer. On opening day, July 16, through Sunday, racegoers were required to purchase seats in advance and weren’t allowed to attend by walking up and buying a general admission ticket. Track officials said the resumption of general admission will allow customers to make last-minute plans to attend racing through the end of the meeting on Sept. 6. :: Visit DRF's Del Mar shop for all your handicapping needs: Past performances, picks, Clocker Reports, Betting Strategies, and more “People can go to the beach, play golf, and catch the races,” track president Josh Rubinstein said. “We want to continue that experience. “Demand for opening weekend was significant. We had to tell some folks they couldn’t come because of the seated capacity.” Rubinstein urged customers to continue purchasing seats in advance for grandstand seats, restaurant tables, or box seats, packages that include parking. General admission walk-up purchases will not include parking. Reserved seats can be purchased through the track’s website – DMTC.com. There are no plans for concerts, giveaways, or other promotional events for the summer meeting. Such events could be held during the autumn meeting in November, Rubinstein said. Rubinstein said the track is staffed to accommodate crowds well in excess of the 15,874 that attended opening day. “Those are numbers that we’ve easily handled in the past,” he said. This week, racing will be held from Friday through Sunday, with first post time at 4 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
