ARCADIA, Calif. - From the front, The Chosen Vron easily dominated three rivals to win his fifth consecutive stakes for California-breds in Monday’s $98,000 Tiznow Stakes at a mile at Santa Anita. Ridden by Hector Berrios, The Chosen Vron ($2.60) was shadowed by 5-1 Leyas Candy for the first six furlongs before pulling clear through the stretch to win by 6 1/2 lengths. The Chosen Vron was timed in 1:36.16. “He showed his class,” Berrios said. “I dictated the pace and he went on.” Leyas Candy held second in his stakes debut, finishing 4 1/4 lengths in front of 7-2 Coalinga Road, the winner of the Unusual Heat Turf Classic at 1 1/8 miles on Jan. 7. Club Cal finished a well-beaten fourth. Finneus was withdrawn on Monday morning. The Chosen Vron set a moderate pace of 23.60 seconds for the opening quarter-mile and 47.15 for a half-mile, leading by a half-length over Leyas Candy. “I felt good when they hit the middle of the first turn,” trainer and co-owner Eric Kruljac said. “He was floating.” :: Get Santa Anita Clocker Reports straight from the morning workouts at the track.
