Thomas Noone of Redondo Beach, Calif., won the NHC Tour season-long title, worth $75,000, and is eligible for a $2 million bonus if he goes on to capture the Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship at the Red Rock Resort in Las Vegas on Jan. 28-29, 2011. NHC Tour members earn points based on their top-five finishes in qualifying tournaments throughout the year. Tourney winners received 3,000 points. Noone, 53, finished with 11,775 points and was atop the leaderboard since May 15, but wasn’t assured of the title until the conclusion of the final NHC qualifying event of the year this past Sunday and Monday at Surfside Race Place in Del Mar, Calif. His nearest competitors, Hesham Ragab, of Los Angeles, and Eric Yee of Staten Island, N.Y., could have passed Noone with a victory, but they never got in contention and finished 93rd and 124th, in the 218-player field. The Surfside tournament was won by Charles Bernhardt, 58, of Los Floras, Calif., who won $12,700 in qualifying for the NHC for the first time.
