ARCADIA, Calif. - Bus Buzz and Mountain Bear, who suffered leg injuries in races at Santa Anita on Friday, are scheduled to undergo surgeries this weekend at Santa Anita, according to Jeff Blea, California’s equine medical director. Mountain Bear, who finished second in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf, was diagnosed with a lateral non-displaced condylar fracture, Blea said. An operation to stabilize the leg will be conducted on Saturday at the equine hospital on Santa Anita’s backstretch. Blea said Mountain Bear is likely to have a rapid recovery, so much so that the colt is likely to be able to walk from the equine hospital to the quarantine barn, where he has been housed for the last several days with Irish trainer Aidan O’Brien’s stable. Bus Buzz was pulled up in early stretch while racing near the front in an allowance race for sprinters. Bus Buzz sustained a foreleg injury that will require an arthrodesis, which fuses the affected joints, Blea said. The surgery is scheduled for Sunday. “Hopefully, there are no complications,” Blea said of Bus Buzz’s prognosis. Bus Buzz has won 3 of 8 starts. Earlier this year, he won the Real Good Deal Stakes for California-bred 3-year-old sprinters at Del Mar. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
