The synthetic-loving filly Botanical stamped her ticket to the Kentucky Oaks with another emphatic Turfway Park score Saturday in the $299,200 Bourbonette Oaks at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky. Leading a 1-2 finish for trainer Brad Cox, who watched from Fair Grounds, Botanical upped her record over the Tapeta course at Turfway to 4 for 4 when leading all the way in a 2 1/2-length romp. The winner returned $4.06 as favorite in a field of 10 3-year-old fillies after finishing 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.47. The 41st Bourbonette was a 100-point qualifying race toward the Kentucky Oaks, with the 50 points awarded the winner effectively earning her a spot in the May 5 filly classic. Although the daughter of Medaglia d’Oro filly has never raced on dirt, “I’d say that’s definitely on the schedule for now,” Cox assistant Tessa Walden said. Chris Landeros gave Botanical a confident ride after the filly broke sharpest of all. They were briefly challenged by Flashy Gem in the upper stretch, but once Landeros let out a notch, the issue was settled. Flashy Gem, the 3-1 second choice, had seven lengths on late-running Thirty Thou Kelvin, who in turn was another 1 3/4 lengths before Miss New York in fourth. :: Bet the races on DRF Bets! Leading into Saturday, she won a Nov. 30 maiden race, a Jan. 12 allowance, and the March 4 Cincinnati Trophy, all by wide margins. The $2 exacta (5-8) paid $11.82, the $1 trifecta (5-8-4) returned $59.84, and the 10-cent superfecta (5-8-4-7) was worth $40.51. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
