The $75,000 Hollywood Wildcat has everything you want in a 2-year-old stakes – a field of 11 fillies, five undefeated debut winners from four different tracks, and five others who have started their careers 1 for 2. It is a very good betting race. The two highest Beyer Speed Figures in the six-furlong sprint belong to Vast and Still Alive, who won first time out and then gained valuable experience when beaten in their next start. Still Alive broke like a shot in her maiden win at Parx in early August and went on to win by 5 1/2 lengths for trainer Lupe Preciado. She earned a 72 Beyer, the highest in this field. Shipped to Laurel Park and switched to turf for her second race, Still Alive broke outward from the outside post, wasn’t hurried when outrun early, then persevered in the stretch to finish third, beaten 1 1/4 lengths. Look for her to show improved speed in this return to the main track. Vast won first time out for Bill Mott early in the Saratoga meet and was given a 69 Beyer, and then was switched to grass for her second outing. She showed inside speed in the 5 1/2-furlong Bolton Landing at the Spa, tracked the leaders around the turn, then weakened to finish fourth. Owned and bred by Claiborne Farm and Adele Dilschneider, she may enjoy this return to dirt and will be facing easier. The Bolton Landing runner-up, Abscond, successfully stretched out in distance last Sunday to win the Grade 1 Natalma. The undefeated debut winners are Remain Anonymous, who won at Saratoga for Mike Trombetta; Campy Cash, a Delaware Park winner for Keith Nations; Kimura, whom Jorge Delgado sends north from Gulfstream Park; and the local winners Call On Mischief, who is conditioned by Michael Stidham, and Groovy Surprise, a 6 1/2-length winner for Rory Huston. Of the group, Campy Cash’s easy win over questionable competition at Delaware was particularly impressive. She eased to the early lead under jockey Angel Suarez and never really was asked to extend herself while scoring by 4 3/4 lengths. She was given a Beyer of 68. Remain Anonymous, who is out of the sire Tapiture’s successful first crop, made a sustained run from well off the pace to win going away at Saratoga. The pace did collapse in that race, but she was striding out nicely in the stretch and has every right to show improved speed second time out. Julian Pimentel will be in from the Maryland to ride. He will have to work out a trip from post 11. Colby, who is cross-entered in the $100,000 Dickie Moore Stakes at Charles Town on Saturday night, was a $440,000 Ocala Breeders’ Sales 2-year-old buy in March by Leonard Green’s DJ Stable. She had an excuse in her debut when she took an awkward step entering the far turn and lost position. She battled on but could not make up the lost ground and finished fourth, beaten 1 3/4 lengths. In her most recent outing, she came from off the pace to win by two lengths at Monmouth for trainer John Servis. The second- and third-place runners, My Gift From Above and Cofactor, each came back to win a Monmouth maiden race in her next start.
