VANCOUVER, British Columbia -- Be Quick was the only favorite to win one of the four $50,000 CTHS Sales Stakes at Hastings Monday. He paid $3.60 for his front-running win over Nine One One in the 1 1/16-mile race for 3- and 4-year-olds. With Amadeo Perez aboard, Be Quick posted a half-mile time of 46.66 seconds while under pressure from Nine One One, was in front by a head turning for home, and drew off to win by a length. Nine One One held on well to finish 8 3/4 lengths in front of Mount Asgaard, who came from last in the five-horse field. The final time was 1:44.49. He paid $51.30 for his neck victory over heavily favored Legacy Square in the 6 1/2-furlong dash. After making a strong move on the stretch turn it appeared Legacy Square was going to blow by Buck in Command turning for home. However, under strong handling by Scott Williams, Buck in Command prevailed in a thrilling stretch drive. It was another four lengths back to Bak to Liberty. Buck in Command posted a final time of 1:17.86. Bred in British Columbia by Ralph Jesiak, the son of Second in Command is owned by Joe and Gloria Russo. With Efrain Hernandez riding, Loveandbeyond came from a stalking position to win the 2-year-old fillies division. She paid $8.60 for her 3 1/4-length victory over Matsqui in the 6 1/2-furlong sprint. Licorice chased the pace before settling for third. The final time was 1:18.77. It was the second straight stakes win for the daughter of Counterforce who was bred by Jesiak. She races for Marty Miller. Speed prevailed again as Daphne, with Jose Gomez riding for trainer David Forster, took them most of the way in the 3- and 4-year-old fillies division. She paid $14.80 and posted a final time of 1:44.81 in the 1 1/16-mile race. Kloepatra was in front heading into the first of three turns, but Daphne took over the lead coming out of the turn, and after posting a half-mile time of 47.03, she had plenty left to hold off heavily favored We B Three, who came from a stalking position. The final margin was 1 3/4 lengths. Marys Tappin Shoes, last early, rallied late to finish third. A 4-year-old daughter of Gemologist, Daphne was bred in Kentucky by Joyce Dermot. She races for Blue Willow Dairy Ltd.
