Americanrevolution stretched out for Monday’s $150,000 New York Derby at Finger Lakes, and stretched clear, winning his stakes debut by 7 1/4 lengths over five fellow New York-bred 3-year-olds. Americanrevolution was sent away favored for WinStar Farm and trainer Todd Pletcher while shipping in from Saratoga. The Constitution colt, with Luis Saez in to ride on a dark day at Saratoga, kindly stalked an honest pace set by Purple Hearted and pressed by Lobsta. He collared Purple Hearted coming into the stretch, and quickly powered clear, extending his advantage through the stretch. He finished the 1 1/16 miles in 1:45.19 and paid $3.30. Purple Hearted easily held second, 5 3/4 lengths clear of Lobsta. This was the third career start for Americanrevolution. In his second race, and first outing for Pletcher, the colt was a maiden special weight winner at Belmont going six furlongs. :: Bet the races with confidence on DRF Bets. Pletcher will have a chance, next Monday, to pull a belated New York Derby/New York Oaks double. The $75,000 Oaks was set to be run on Monday, but failed to attract sufficient entries. It was brought back for July 26 and has attracted seven entries, including the Pletcher-trained Laura’s Bellamy.
