A federal district court has upheld a ruling that continues to allow Churchill Downs’s account-wagering company to operate in Michigan.
The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority has issued a provisional suspension to trainer Rudy Rodriguez after a hearing officer ruled that the organization’s charges against the trainer of failure to provide proper veterinary care represented a sufficient risk to horse welfare.
The suspension began today, according to a notice provided to Rodriguez’s attorneys and posted on the HISA website. The suspension will last until the case is formally adjudicated, which will be in a matter of weeks.

Panelists on Wednesday afternoon gathered at the University of Arizona Global Symposium on Racing for a session to discuss American race timing. All agreed that the run-up needs to be eliminated, having far outlived its usefulness, if it ever had any legitimate use at all.
TUCSON, Ariz. – A bill to roll back a recent change in withholding on gambling winnings that would be highly deleterious to avid gamblers is expected to gain support later this year, according to the head of Thoroughbred racing’s federal lobbying group.
Trainer Steve Miyadi will complete a 20-day suspension on Thursday for working a gelding at Del Mar in July a day after the runner was scratched because of illness.
The suspension began on Nov. 22, according to a ruling published on Saturday by Los Alamitos stewards. The suspension was part of an mutual agreement between the California Horse Racing Board and Miyadi, according to the ruling.
The already favorable eligibility terms for California-breds in allowance races will be expanded, beginning at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting on Dec. 26.
Earlier this month, the track, along with horsemen’s organizations, announced an expansion of allowance race options for statebreds on a 12-month trial basis.
Currently, California-breds that win a first-level allowance race for statebreds on dirt or turf, can switch surfaces and race in a first-level allowance race for statebreds until they win on the second surface.

The Horseracing Integrity and Safety Authority will conduct a “comprehensive” review of the policies that limit horses in training and racing when they are placed on the Veterinarians' or Stewards' Lists, with a goal of updating the policies by the end of 2026, HISA announced on Monday.
