BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, Sept. 10, 2016 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore

Last week’s Pix were in the half-a-loaf category. Our final 3-year-old Pick of the year, Ponte Vedra Sky, buried her field by nine lengths and paid a delicious $24.

Gierkink: Woodbine horses to watch for the week of Sept. 5

PRINCESS BULLET
Trainer: Krista Cole
Last race: Sept. 4, 5th
Finish: 1st by 4 3/4
Beyer: 59
The debuting 2-year-old made quite a splash in a two-turn maiden special, beating her Ontario-sired opposition easily after mounting a four-wide rally. She looks like a prospect for the $125,000 South Ocean Stakes.

Peck: Saratoga pick three for Labor Day

The very last pick three of the Saratoga meet looks interesting, as the final leg features a couple of intriguing longshots.

RACE 9: TAKE THE STAND is the one to catch from the rail. RING WEEKEND has some of the better Beyer Speed Figures in the field. TAKEOVER TARGET fits on his best figures. JAY GATSBY meets better, but that last effort was solid.

Bernier: How I'll play Del Mar on Labor Day

Closing day of the Del Mar summer meeting features a two-day pick-six carryover of $547,421. The sequence begins with race 5, the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity, at 7:03 p.m. Eastern. Here's a quick look at some horses to consider using if you plan on diving into the deep end on closing day.

King: Parx pick four play for Monday, Sept. 5

It's a solid card at Parx on Labor Day, and the pick four culminating with the Smarty Jones seems very playable:

RACE 6: LADY SHIPMAN (6) has consistently shown she ranks among the best turf sprinters in North America, and she races against strictly females in the Turf Amazon. Single her to kick off the pick four.

Hersh: How I'd play Gulfstream Park on Saturday, Sept. 3

Six stakes, 13 races, a potentially top-class 2-year-old, and quite a bit of opportunity on the Gulfstream card Saturday.

Three Rules (#7), the unbeaten 2-year-old colt by Gone Astray, might be the shortest price of the day in the $300,000 Affirmed division of the Florida Sire Stakes, race 12. I have no interest in siding against him but will try to leverage what looks like a free space in the late pick four (races 10-13) into some kind of profit.

Illman: How I'll play Saratoga for Saturday, Sept. 3

Let’s take a look at the late pick five sequence at Saratoga on the final Saturday of the 2016 meeting.

Race 8

NEOLITHIC (10) seems like a talented, but fragile type for trainer Todd Pletcher. He returned from a long layoff last month to post a 99 Beyer when second to the promising Summer Revolution, but was very green coming out of the gate, and gave up significant early position. Still, his late run was promising and he should be tough if able to build on that comeback effort.

Free: How I'll play Del Mar on Saturday, Sept. 3

DEL MAR, Calif. – Two-year-olds are in the spotlight Saturday – fillies in the Grade 1 Del Mar Debutante, colts and geldings in the $100,000 Del Mar Juvenile Turf. Both fields include playable maidens at double-digit odds, beginning with the Juvenile Turf that is race 6.

Big Score is the program favorite, Bowies Hero the third choice. Both scored sharp debut wins; the Lone Star smasher by Bowies Hero was particularly impressive. He is the horse to beat.
