King: Keeneland pick six for Thursday, Oct. 20

With no one hitting the pick six at Keeneland on Wednesday, a hefty carryover of $329,321 sweetens the pot for the wager Thursday. Here is a race-by-race analysis of the wager, which begins on race 4 and can be played in $1 denominations:

Race 4

Free: Santa Anita horses to watch for week of Oct. 17

HOBBITS HERO
Trainer: Richard Baltas
Last race: Oct. 14, 5th
Finish: 4th by 5
Beyer: 90
A mile and one-eighth was out of reach for honest gelding; he tired late in N2X turf race. Watch for him to shorten to one mile or a mile and sixteenth at the Del Mar fall meet.

Analysis for Keeneland's $106K pick-six carryover

A pick-six carryover of $106,745 will greet horseplayers when Keeneland resumes racing on Wednesday, beginning with the third race and continuing to the last race, the eighth. What follows is a race-by-race analysis of wager, which can be played in $1 increments:

Race 3

A maiden $50,000 claiming race for 2-year-olds at seven furlongs, this is a tricky race to handicap. Four of the 10 entrees are first-time starters, and another, Tsunami, is virtually a first timer, having clipped heels early in his lone start, tossing his rider.

Illman: How I'll play Keeneland on Sunday, Oct. 16

Let's take a look at three of the more competitive races at Keeneland on a stakes-less Sunday afternoon card.

Race 9 - Allowance
1 - CZAR (5 to 1 morning line, 5 to 1 value line)

Peck: Keeneland pick four for Saturday, Oct. 15

The late pick four features the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup, a very interesting betting race, but the surrounding races are also intriguing.

RACE 7: ALLIED AIR RAID undoubtedly benefited from the race flow in his latest, but he has worked very well in the interim and should get at least a little help in this one as well. CAMMACK has won six straight and is eligible to extend that streak here, as his Beyer Speed Figures fit well, and his tactical speed and inside post should translate into another good trip.

Free: How I'd Play Santa Anita for Saturday, Oct. 15

ARCADIA, Calif. – It seems overlays occur less often as they did once upon a time in Southern California. For discerning bettors, most races are good races to pass.

There are exceptions, including three possibilities Saturday at Santa Anita.

A maiden who lost both starts by double-digit margins, an outclassed claiming horse moving up to an allowance, and a gelding who has lost 15 in a row each has upset potential despite obvious imperfections.

Hersh: Use six in E.P. Taylor to start pick four

Woodbine offers a $250,000-guaranteed pick four on the last four races of Sunday’s Canadian International card, races 8 through 11, and with a 20-cent base bet, one can fool around with all kinds of coverage through the sequence. Here’s a look at our play.

Woodbine: Evaluating chances of Euro invaders in graded stakes

Michael Burns
Protectionist, showing training at Woodbine, compiled a good record racing in Germany and could be a live longshot in the Canadian International.

Sunday is Canadian International Day at Woodbine – emphasis on “international.”

Eleven horses from Europe are entered in three graded stakes, and no wonder they have come en masse. In the last 10 years, foreign-based horses have won the E.P. Taylor Stakes seven times and the International seven times. Europeans have a six-year winning streak in the International.

There’s a strong chance they won’t leave empty-handed this year either, so let’s take a closer look at who might get the money.

BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for Saturday, October 15, 2016 by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore

Last week’s Pick turned out to be a mess. Our choice, Son of a Saint, slammed into another at the start and decided he wasn’t interested after that even though he did make up ground late. Dupree cut off another one at the start, set the pace, and ran totally out of gas late to finish third. Sorry. On the other hand, 15 BreezeFigs maidens did their job last week, winning at 10 tracks, and two others won Graded stakes.
