Life At Ten incident still prompts questions

Barbara D. Livingston
Life At Ten, John Velazquez up, trailed the field throughout last year's Ladies' Classic after appearing sluggish in the paddock and post parade. The incident brought about new policies to address gaps in communication between racing officials and regulatory officials.

The in-game interview is a fairly recent development in sports TV. In theory, it transports fans inside an event when a broadcaster interviews a coach or manager while the game unfolds. In reality, the responses from the participants are frequently bland, pushing fans away from the heart of the matter.

The dispute has reemerged 10 months after the two sides reached a state-brokered agreement to run 146 dates in 2011. Now, the MJC is insisting again that its two tracks cannot support that number of dates, with horsemen resisting any effort to pare the schedule.

Dutrow granted 30-day stay of license revocation

Barbara D. Livingston
Richard Dutrow Jr. had his training license revoked because of a history of violations “inconsistent with the best interests of racing.”

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Richard Dutrow Jr., facing a 10-year revocation of his trainer’s license, was given a reprieve Monday morning when a New York State Supreme Court judge issued a 30-day stay of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board’s penalty handed down last week.

At the conclusion of a 30-minute hearing, Judge Richard Giardino issued the 30-day stay, saying he didn’t feel “it would undermine the integrity of the system to allow the stay.” Had the judge denied the stay, Dutrow would have been banned from the grounds of New York tracks beginning Tuesday.
