With a series-tying win in Game 2 in Calgary, the Dallas Stars head home to the Lone Star state in hopes of taking a series lead against the Calgary Flames. Game 3 of the Flames-Stars First Round series is set to begin at 9:30 PM from American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, with coverage on TNT.

Darryl Sutter is set to start Jacob Markstrom in goal for the Flames, while Rick Bowness will send Jake Gettinger in net for the Stars.

Recent Trends

The Flames won the season series 2-1, while taking Game 1 by a score of 1-0. Dallas rebounded with a statement of their own, winning Game 2 by a 2-0 score. The Flames come into the game as -170 favorites, with a 5.5 O/U.

Key Injuries

Neither team has any recent injuries.

Why Flames Can Win

The story of this series has been the defense and goaltending from both teams, even on the losing sides. It can be argued that Calgary has a better overall team than Dallas and has a veteran coach in Sutter, who has a career record of 20-9 when tied in a playoff series.

While a 2-0 loss on home ice is frustrating, there were some positives to walk away with. The Flames should be able to come out strong after the devastating Game 2 loss. As coach of the Stars, Bowness is 1-8 in games after shutout victories. Maybe this is something the Flames can take advantage of.

Why Stars Can Win

Whenever a road team takes a series lead or tie back home, they automatically have the advantage. That’s the situation the Stars are in. They come into tonight’s game with a chip on their shoulders and their home fans in the stands.

Similarly with Calgary, the Stars have played well defensively and gotten great goaltending performances out of Gettinger. If he can give them anything resemblant of the previous two games, Dallas will be within arms reach of winning this game.
