Carolina Panthers (-7.5) at Houston Texans
Thursday 9/23, 8:20 p.m. ET

Three things you need to know before betting on Panthers-Texans:

1. The Panthers have seemed to enjoy life on the road recently, going 7-0 against the spread away from home over the past calendar year. Carolina ended last season with a home game before beginning this season with back-to-back games at home. The last time the Panthers played on the road was in Week 16 last December, a game they won in Washington 20-13 as a 1-point favorite.

2. This is the 24th time since the start of the 2013 season that Houston has been getting points at home. The Texans are 6-17 straight-up and 8-15 against the spread in their previous 23 games as a home underdog. Since the start of 2017, they’re 0-4 straight-up and 1-3 against the spread as a home underdog of more than 5 points.

3. The Panthers and Texans will be meeting for only the fourth time since the start of the 2011 season. Carolina has gone 3-0 both straight-up and against the spread in the previous three matchups between the teams, winning 16-10 as a 5.5-point road underdog in the most recent meeting in September 2019. Fast starts have played a major role in the Panthers’ success over their past three games against Houston, as Carolina has outscored the Texans in the first halves of those three matchups by a combined score of 41-6. The Panthers gained an average of 144 rushing yards over the three games.
