Los Angeles Chargers at Kansas City Chiefs (-6.5)
Sunday 9/26, 1:00 p.m. ET

Three things you need to know before betting on Chargers-Chiefs:

1. The road team has been the better wager in this head-to-head matchup in recent years, with the visiting squad having gone 12-4 against the spread in games between Los Angeles and Kansas City since the start of the 2013 season. The Chargers are 4-5 straight-up and 6-3 against the spread over their past nine road games against the Chiefs, with each of the past three of those meetings having gone Over the total. Both teams surpassed 20 points in each of the three games, with an average of 56 total points having been scored over that trio of matchups.

2. No NFL head coach has a better track record than Kansas City’s Andy Reid when it comes to having his team ready for the initial portion of a regular season. The Chiefs enter Week 3 having gone 14-1 straight-up and 11-4 against the spread in September games since the start of 2017. The Chargers last visited Kansas City during the month of September for the 2016 season opener, a game the Chiefs won 33-27 as a 6.5-point favorite. Since then, Kansas City has gone 6-0 straight-up and 5-1 against the spread in September home games.

3. The Chiefs started last November with a 35-9 victory as a 19.5-point home favorite against the Jets to improve their record to 7-1 straight-up and 6-2 against the spread over the first half of the 2020 regular season. Kansas City has gone 10-3 since then: The lone losses have been in the regular-season finale when the team rested most of its starters against the Chargers, in Super Bowl LV when Kansas City was hammered by the Buccaneers, and this past Sunday’s 36-35 loss as a 3.5-point road favorite at Baltimore. The Chiefs, however, are just 2-11 against the spread over that span, and a 38-24 win over Buffalo in the AFC Championship Game is the only one of the 13 games that Kansas City won by more than 6 points.
