The New York Yankees begin a six-game road trip in Kansas City tonight as they face the Royals from Kauffman Stadium at 8:10 PM on Apple TV+.

New York comes into the game as the favorites, with the total opening at 8.5. Aaron Boone will send Nestor Cortes Jr. (0-0, 1.15 ERA) to the mound for the Yankees, while Mike Matheny will send Kris Bubic (0-1, 14.14 ERA) out for the Royals.

The Yankees won four of the six games played against the Royals last season, with the weekend series being their first of two series this season.

Over the last two seasons, the Yankees are 6-2 in games after scoring 10+ runs the game before.

Key Injuries

Aaron Hicks is probable for tonight’s game for the Yankees, as he is on the verge of coming back from the paternity list. Adalberto Mondesi will be out for an indefinite period after suffering a torn ACL.

Why Yankees Can Win

The Yankees have won six games in a row and eight of their last nine, with the offense coming alive and starting pitching giving them valuable innings.

It can be argued that Cortes has been the Yankees’ best starter this season, which may continue against a Royals’ team that is struggling to hit.

Bubic has not looked great for the Royals at all, with a 14.14 ERA in just 7.0 innings pitched over three starts. If the Yankees can get to him early, it may be a long night for the Royals.

Why Royals Can Win

Had it not been for the many errors the Orioles committed in yesterday’s game, the Yankees may not have won. While the Yankees did score 10 runs, it did not do their offense enough justice.

The Royals offense is bound to break out at any point, given that they still have a solid team. Bubic is also bound for a rebound and has struggled with command. If he can keep the walks down, he should have a much better outing and lead the Royals to a Friday night victory.

The Pick: New York Yankees (-200)
