Iowa Hawkeyes (-3.5) at Maryland Terrapins
Friday, 10/1, 8:00 p.m. ET

Three things you need to know before betting on Iowa-Maryland:

1. Iowa and Maryland haven't played one another since the 2018 season, when the Hawkeyes earned a 23-0 victory as a 10-point favorite in Kinnick Stadium. This time around, there will be a bit more hype around this game, and the Terps have to be feeling better about their chances of coming away with an upset. Both of these teams are undefeated straight-up coming into this one, and they both are 3-1 against the spread on the season. And with the spread being less than a touchdown, the oddsmakers clearly believe it'll be somewhat close.

2. Head coach Kirk Ferentz' Iowa team hasn't been intimidated when playing as a favorite on the road, as the Hawkeyes are 23-2 straight-up and 19-6 against the spread when laying points on the road since the start of 2013. Iowa has also taken care of business against explosive offensive teams under Ferentz, as the Hawkeyes are 45-20-3 against the spread when facing teams that average more than 5.9 yards per play in that time. The Terps are averaging 6.7 yards per play this season.

3. When these teams met in 2018, the game comfortably went Under the total of 44.5 points. That number is a bit higher in this meeting — and the Terrapins definitely play an up-tempo style these days — but the Under is actually 4-0 in Iowa games this season, and it's also 3-1 in Maryland games. The Under also happens to be 10-2 when Iowa is coming off a game in which the team allowed 100 or less rushing yards in its previous game since the start of 2019.
