Three things you need to know before betting the Cure Bowl:

1. Coastal Carolina, meanwhile, was one of only six FBS teams to score an average of more than 40 points per game during the 2021 regular season. Northern Illinois, meanwhile, ranked 107th out of 130 FBS teams in scoring defense, allowing an average of 32.7 points per game. The Chanticleers are 10-3 against the spread since the start of 2019 when facing an opponent that allows an average of 31 or more points per game.

2. This is Thomas Hammock’s third season as head coach of Northern Illinois and his first bowl game. Hammock took over for Rod Carey, who was 0-6 both straight-up and against the spread in bowls, losing the six games by an average margin of 25.2 points. The Huskies are 4-13 straight-up and 3-14 against the spread in December games since the start of the 2005 season, which includes a record of 1-7 (both straight-up and against the spread) in December games over the past seven calendar years.

3. Teams from the Mid-American Conference are 9-47 straight-up and 19-35-2 against the spread over their past 56 bowl games. That includes records of 0-14 straight-up and 3-11 against the spread in bowl games as double-digits underdogs. MAC teams have lost those 14 games by an average margin of 23.7 points.
