OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Michelle Giangiulio hopes She’s Our Tiz can begin her 3-year-old campaign on Thursday the same way she kicked off her 2-year-old season – with a win sprinting over Aqueduct’s turf course. She’s Our Tiz is one of many contenders in a full field of New York-bred fillies and mares entered in a first-level allowance scheduled for six furlongs over the outer turf course. Last July 5, in a field of eight first-time starters, She’s Our Tiz took advantage of an outside draw to work out a sweet stalking trip under Kendrick Carmouche before drawing clear late to win by 1 3/4 lengths while covering six furlongs in a solid 1:08.87. :: Get the Inside Track with the FREE DRF Morning Line Email Newsletter. Back with New York-breds, but on dirt, She’s Our Tiz finished last of five behind the undefeated With the Angels in the Joseph A. Gimma last Sept. 22. Giangiulio gave She’s Our Tiz one more run back on turf in the Chelsey Flower last Oct. 20, where she finished third, beaten just 1 1/4 lengths in a field of five. Giangiulio said by that time of the year Aqueduct’s turf course was pretty beat up and jockey Jose Lezcano said She’s Our Tiz struggled navigating the turns. “He said ‘if she didn’t struggle with the turns I don’t think they would have beaten her,’ but it was loose around the turns,” Giangiulio said. Over the last two years, Giangiulio is 3 for 6 with horses returning from a layoff of more than 180 days, according to DRF Formulator, including winning a $35,000 claimer with Mursal on March 28 off a 406-day layoff. Giangiulio said She’s Our Tiz has “been in training since the beginning of February, we have plenty of condition into her, she’s ready to go. I like the cutback, no specific reason, I think we can go short or long with her, but we’re excited for the turf season.” She’s Our Tiz is one of four 3-year-olds of the 12 that are in the body of the race. Sinead, trained by Jorge Abreu, won her maiden sprinting on turf last October, covering six furlongs in the exact same 1:08.87 that She’s Our Tiz ran three months earlier. Sinead made her 3-year-old debut in February at Gulfstream Park where she was beaten by Epona’s Hope in the Ladies’ Turf Sprint. Epona’s Hope came back to win the Captiva Island Stakes in mid-March. Meanwhile, Sinead was beaten seven lengths while trying to stretch out around two turns in a first-level turf allowance at Gulfstream. Thursday, Sinead is back at six furlongs and reunited with Lezcano, who was aboard for her maiden win. Turriga is a two-time winner sprinting over Aqueduct’s turf course and is three-time winner overall. She is coming off a last-place finish in this condition on dirt on March 29. Aunt Yola won her maiden sprinting over Saratoga’s turf at 24-1 last summer, her lone win from nine starts. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
