Intrepido, winner of the Grade 1 American Pharoah Stakes at Santa Anita on Oct. 4, but fifth of six in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile at Del Mar on Oct. 31, will not race again this year. Trainer Jeff Mullins said on Thursday that Intrepido’s next start will occur at the Santa Anita winter-spring meeting that begins on Dec. 26. There are four graded stakes for 3-year-olds on dirt at the meeting, beginning with the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes at seven furlongs on Jan. 10, followed by the Grade 3 Robert Lewis Stakes at a mile on Feb. 7. The leading race of the season for 3-year-olds on dirt is the Grade 1 Santa Anita Derby at 1 1/8 miles on April 4. Mullins said the Grade 2 Los Alamitos Futurity at 1 1/16 miles on Dec. 13 is not under consideration. “I haven’t breezed him since he ran,” Mullins said. “I’ve been patient with him and let him get over that race. “He’s got plenty of time to make a race at Santa Anita.” :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports The San Vicente has a purse of $200,000, while the Lewis Stakes is worth $100,000. Mullins said he may consider shipping Intrepido to another venue for a more lucrative stakes in early 2026. “We’ll get one in him at home and see where we’re at,” he said. Intrepido, who races for the Dutch Girl Holdings and Irving Ventures stable of Michele Arthur and Ruben Islas, has won 2 of 4 starts and earned $292,800. Intrepido won a maiden race at a mile at Del Mar on Aug. 23 in his second start, and overcame trouble to win the American Pharoah Stakes at 1 1/16 miles. In the BC Juvenile, Intrepido was away slowly from an inside post and finished 10 lengths behind the undefeated Ted Noffey. Aside from Intrepido, Mullins’s stable has been led in recent months by the California-bred gelding Man O Rose, who has won three stakes for statebreds since mid-September. Man O Rose won The Chosen Vron Stakes at seven furlongs at Del Mar on Nov. 8 as the 4-5 favorite. On Thursday, Man O Rose worked a quick half-mile in 46.60 seconds at Santa Anita. Man O Rose does not have a race target, Mullins said. Mullins said Man O Rose was given a workout on Thursday because no workouts will be permitted on Friday or Saturday because of significant rain expected on Thursday night and Friday morning. It was unclear on Thursday whether workouts will be allowed at Santa Anita on Sunday, pending rainfall. :: Want to learn more about handicapping and wagering?
