Sire: Monarchos vaulted into racing immortality with his 116 Beyer Speed Figure romp in the 2001 Kentucky Derby. He had previously won the Florida Derby at nine furlongs, and would go on to finish third in the Belmont Stakes at 1 1/2 miles.
His best runner to date is the excellent sprinter Informed Decision, but Monarchos has been a bit of a disappointment at stud.
Dam: City Fair won the Correction Handicap at six furlongs over Aqueduct's inner track. She only tried routing once, and that resulted in a second-place finish in the Valdale Stakes at one mile.
City Fair is a full sister to Lorenzon, a stakes-winner at Zia Park over six furlongs. Like his sister, Lorenzon only tried a distance of ground once, finishing fourth in the Winsham Lad Stakes at a mile.
There are some European stamina influences deeper in the pedigree. Royal Abjar was a multiple Group 2 winning miler in Germany. Encoremoi won a 12 furlong stakes race in France. After the Sun was Group 3-placed at a mile, and won at 10 furlongs in France. Escaline won the Group 1 Prix de Diane.
Outlook: Monarchos adds some stamina to the pedigree, but the damside is mostly speed. Win Willy has shown a strong late kick, but may need everything to fall his way if he is to fully appreciate 1 1/4 miles.
