Forget about the Smarty Jones rags-to-riches tale if this guy pulls off the monumental Belmont upset. Bought for only $3,000 as a weanling, the grandson of Belmont winner A.P. Indy graduated at first asking in a maiden claimer in Mexico City, and was 75-1 in his United States debut in the Holy Bull at Gulfstream. Has improved a great deal since Lasix was added to the package, and he defeated older horses in his two most recent wins at Hawthorne. Flattered a bit when five-year-old Tio Lupe returned from the May 1 event to score in a 50K turf claimer at Arlington with an 89 Beyer. His confidence should be sky-high after his recent successes, but he hasn't done much when thrown in with the best of his generation. Yet to reach 90 on the Beyer scale so it would be a huge surprise if he takes Smarty Jones down.
