Chamberlain Bridge jogs a mile Sunday morning at Churchill Downs.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After missing a scheduled breeze Saturday morning because of an abscess in his right-front foot, Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint hopeful Chamberlain Bridge returned to the racetrack Sunday morning, when he jogged a mile the “wrong” way, or clockwise.

The abscess, an infected puss pocket in the hoof, drained through a nail hole after Chamberlain Bridge’s shoe was removed Saturday, Calhoun said.

Second time's the charm for Chamberlain Bridge in Pa. Governor's Cup

Last summer, Chamberlain Bridge was narrowly beaten as the favorite in the Arlington Sprint Handicap and had to settle for third at 7-2 odds in the Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup at Penn National.

The now 6-year-old Chamberlain Bridge has now atoned for both of those defeats after holding off a belated bid from Phosphorescent to win the 38th running of the Pennsylvania Governor’s Cup upon his return to Penn National on Saturday night.
