Friend Or Foe will make his first start as a 4-year-old in Sunday's Easy Goer at Belmont Park.

ELMONT, N.Y. – Sunday’s $60,000 Easy Goer overnight stakes is so tough that Convocation, coming off a second straight runner-up finish in the Westchester, may be fifth choice in the betting behind Friend Or Foe, Mission Impazible, Rail Trip, and Tahitian Warrior.

“There should be a ‘G2’ next to that 60 thousand,” quipped John Kimmel, who has Friend Or Foe set to launch his 4-year-old season in the 1 1/16-mile race.

New York Showcase offers classic opportunities

ELMONT, N.Y. – Grade 1 stakes winners Haynesfield and Rightly So are being prepared for Breeders’ Cup races. The multiple Grade 3 winning turf horse Get Serious is getting a vacation, pointing to a 2011 campaign. Bug Juice, leader of the state-bred juvenile division, is awaiting the $1 million Delta Jackpot

Despite the lack of participation by the cream of this year’s state-bred crop in Saturday’s New York Showcase Day program at Belmont Park, the 10-race card still has plenty to offer horsemen and horseplayers alike.

Jim Dandy offers chance to join division's elite

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – None of the 3-year-olds expected to run in Saturday’s $500,000 Jim Dandy have established themselves as major contenders in the division. But by the end of summer, one or more just might.

While the marquee 3-year-olds such as Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver and Preakness winner Lookin At Lucky are slated to run in Sunday’s $1 million Haskell Invitational at Monmouth Park, there are several horses in the Grade 2 Jim Dandy that may be one start away from joining the ranks of the elite.

Friend or Foe to get stamina test in Jim Dandy

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – John Kimmel knows Friend or Foe has a lot to overcome when he makes his graded stakes debut in Saturday’s Grade 2, $500,000 Jim Dandy at Saratoga.

But in Friend or Foe, Kimmel also knows he has a lot of horse.

Friend or Foe, undefeated in three starts, is one of several intriguing 3-year-olds set to contest the Jim Dandy, the local prep for the $1 million Travers Stakes here Aug. 28. The Jim Dandy is run at 1 1/8 miles.
