Bad Boy not fully cranked for Yeung UK Handicap

Bad Boy ended the 2015-16 Hong Kong season with wins in two of his last three starts in April and June. The success has left prominent trainer John Moore hopeful that the 4-year-old Australian-bred Bad Boy can excel in higher-class races, including group-level stakes, in the coming months.

On Sunday at Sha Tin, Bad Boy will have his first start of the new season in the $225,567 Yeung UK Handicap at five furlongs on turf. Bad Boy is part of a field of 14 and needs the race, Moore insists.

O'Briens finish 1-2 in Ireland's Moyglare Stud Stakes

An O’Brien-trained filly won Sunday’s $392,400 Moyglare Stud Stakes at The Curragh in Ireland, but not as expected.

Joseph O’Brien, son of leading trainer Aidan O’Brien, won the first Group 1 of his career as a trainer when 25-1 Intricately finished a nose in front of the Aidan O’Brien-trained Hydrangea, a 7-1 shot who set the pace.

Intricately was ridden by 18-year-old Donnacha O’Brien, another son of Aidan O’Brien, who has been riding for two years and had his first Group 1 win in the seven-furlong race.

Makahiki wins Prix Niel, takes step toward Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe

The Japanese 3-year-old Makahiki won France's Group 2 Prix Niel on Sunday at Chantilly, taking a solid step toward his major goal this fall, the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe on Oct. 2.

The Niel, Makahiki’s first start since May and a clear prep for the Arc, had the colt surely not at his best, but he was able to get home by a neck over Midterm, another talented colt unraced since May. Midterm finished a nose in front of third-place Doha Dream.
