A bruised foot will prevent Demonic from making his stakes debut in the $300,000 San Felipe Stakes on March 9 at Santa Anita, trainer John Sadler said.
The Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes is run over 1 1/16 miles and is a key prep for the $750,000 Santa Anita Derby on April 6.
Sadler said that he has no specific plans for Demonic this spring.
“He’ll miss the San Felipe,” Sadler said. “I’m not sure what we’ll do, but he’ll be fine.”
A maiden race winner over seven furlongs in his only start on Jan. 13, Demonic has missed training time in the last week. Owned by Lee and Susan Searing, Demonic is by Bernardini. The colt was purchased for $400,000 at the 2011 Keeneland September yearling sale and is considered Sadler’s top 3-year-old prospect.
