David Neuburger of Forest Hill, N.Y. finished Friday as the leader in the two-day National Handicapping Championship, winning the Day 1 prize of $3,000 when he finished with a score of $150.50 from 15 mythical $2 win-and-place bets.

LAS VEGAS - The Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship had its rabbit. William Marsh of Oak Lawn, Ill., broke from the gate fastest in the first race of the contest, the opener at Tampa Bay Downs, as Crafty Grey won at 31-1 and returned $64.80 and $25.80 to place.
