Home: Council Bluffs, Ia. Age: 72 Occupation: Retired trainman, U.P.R.R. Road to the Finals: Finished first in the Horsemen's Park qualifying contest on May 8. Bio: Qualified for her second National Handicapping Championship by beating a field of 500 players at Horsemen's Park. Finished 144th at NHC IV in Jan. 2003 after qualifying with a win at Horsemen's Park in 2002. All told has now won seven "small money" contests in her tournament career and also once hit a trifecta for a $15,380 payoff. Born on Halloween 1931, she became interested in horse racing when she met a jockey agent who took her to Ak-Sar-Ben in the 1950s. Her most memorable handicapping moment was when she was alive with three horses going into the last leg of a $180,000 pick 6, and then had to watch as her horses ran second, third, and fourth in a six-horse field. When not going to the races with all five members of her family, she also enjoys shooting, golf, cards, boxing, football, and old guns.
