IRA SCHWARTZ

Ira Schwartz
Home: Miami Beach, Fla.
Age: 45
Occupation: Handicapper
Road to the Finals: Finished first and won $60,750 in the Bally's Summer Stakes on Aug. 6-7.
Bio: Schwartz is a veteran tournament player who finished third in the very first Orleans tournament. He has since added a top three finish at the Orleans after posting a goose egg on the first day of the contest. He also finished third and fourth in different tournaments at the Flamingo Reno, including his bad beat third behind Audrey Louie-Sellers that is chronicled on pages 23-24 of the Handicapping Contest Handbook (DRF Press, 2003) written by Noel Michaels. He then stepped up this year and added to his resume with a victory in the Bally's Summer Stakes over an all-star leaderboard including names like Gutfreund, Bertolucci, and Hinson. The raspy-voiced Schwartz has appeared on several radio shows as his alter ego, Rabbi Larry Fine. "The Rabbi" has unique opinions on nearly every topic and has a penchant for fast women and getting himself in trouble.
