Home: Iowa City, Ia.
Age: 24
Occupation: Student at the University of Iowa School of Law
Road to the Finals: Finished first and earned $1,000 in a Handicapping Cup event at Prairie Meadows.
Bio: Qualified for his second straight National Handicapping Championship at Prairie Meadows. Finished in 89th place at NHC V in Jan. 2004 after finishing first and winning $837 in Prairie Meadows' qualifying contest on June 14, 2003. He was introduced to racing by his father on weekend visits to the Nebraska tracks. He learned how to read the Daily Racing Form by the fifth grade and always made his own selections when his dad would take him to the track, but says the longer he plays the races, the more he believes he still has much more to learn. He still enjoys going to the races with his dad and his brother, and remembers hitting a $2 exacta box at Prairie Meadows before they got slots that paid $700, which accounted for the entire mutuel pool. Patrick enjoys researching and writing on almost every subject including sociology, psychology, speech communications, statistics, and philosophy. Last year's trip to NHC V was not only his first trip to Las Vegas, it was his first trip ever on a jet.
