TIM HOLLAND

Tim Holland
Home: Midway, Ky.
Age: 42
Occupation: Horse farm broodmare manager
Road to the Finals: Finished first and won the $5,000 first prize in the Turfway Handicapping Blowout on Feb. 22.
Bio: Holland is one of only a few people who have qualified for four National Handicapping Championships. He has distinguished himself in national finals competition to date with a third-place finish in the individual standings at NHC IV in Jan. 2003. Also played on back-to-back team championship-winning squads from Keeneland at NHC III-IV. Finished in 64th place individually at NHC III, and in 34th place at NHC II as a member of the team representing Turfway Park, and currently sits in 11th place on the all-time NHC money list with $20,000 in earnings. He is now once again a member of a team from Turfway Park after winning the $5,000 first prize in the Turfway Handicapping Blowout on Feb. 22. He later finished first in a field of 200 players and won another $11,000 in the Arlington Park Handicapping Contest on Sept. 19, which also would have been good enough to qualify him for NHC VI. Hollandıs interest in horse racing doesnıt end with handicapping. The native of Dorset, England was introduced to the sport by his parents when his father used to work at the English Jockey Club. He says his mother is still a keen horseracing enthusiast in England. Since leaving England, Tim worked with horses in Ireland, New Zealand, and Canada before settling in the US. He is currently hard at work writing a book about the history of gambling.
