The NTRA and Canterbury Park teamed up to host an online handicapping contest centered around the Claiming Crown program held on July 19 at the Minneapolis/St. Paul-area track.
The winner of the event was Jimmy Wells of West Memphis, Arkansas, who compiled a contest-winning bankroll of $196 based on mythical $2 to win and place wagers in the 11-race Claiming Crown card at Canterbury. Wells finished comfortably ahead of an otherwise tightly-packed field of several hundred entrants. The nearest finisher was runner-up Carolann Zabrouski of Wilwaukee, Wisc. who finished with a total of $168.
The contest was free to enter and offered a total of four Daily Racing Form/NTRA National Handicapping Championship V qualifying berths as prizes. In addition to the winner and runner-up, two remaining trips to NHC V went to third- and fourth-place finishers Henry Collins of Lynn, Mass ($162.60), and Douglass Radt of Waldorf, Maryland ($160.60).
