Ziadie to have full day in Sun

MIAMI - Nobody will be busier during next Saturday's Festival of the Sun program than trainer Ralph Ziadie, who will saddle eight horses in five of the six stakes scheduled during the $1.5 million program.

Ziadie will send out Royal Lad and Cosmic Sea in the $400,000 In Reality Stakes, Redoubled Miss and Pharmstar in the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes, Halo Reality and Free The Magic in the $200,000 Calder Oaks, Sir Bear in the $100,000 Spend a Buck Handicap and Tahkodha Hills in the $100,000 Flying Pidgeon Handicap. The only stakes Ziadie will not participate in is the $200,000 Smile Sprint Handicap.

Ziadie's best chances may come in the In Reality and Spend a Buck, where Pharmstar and Sir Bear figure to start among the top choices.

Pharmstar won her first two starts, including the Desert Vixen division of the Florida Stallion Series, before finishing second as the 3-5 favorite behind Bold World in the Susan's Girl Stakes, middle leg of the Stallion series.

"I had to send Pharmstar to Ocala to have a cyst almost the size of a golf ball removed from her epiglottis after the Susan's Girl," said Ziadie. "It cost her about 14 days of training, so I've had to rush her preparation to get her ready for the My Dear Girl."

Redoubled Miss finished a badly beaten 11th in the Susan's Girl after being "annihilated" leaving the starting gate, as Ziadie put it, but bounced back to finished a narrowly beaten second in the Brave Raj Stakes.

Sir Bear will likely be favored to win the Spend a Buck. The amazing 8-year-old has won three Grade 1 races including the Gulfstream Park Handicap earlier this season and banked over $2 million for owners Barbara and Al Smollin but despite all his success has never won a stakes race over his home course. He finished third as the 3-5 favorite in the 2000 Spend a Buck.

"I think he's never really liked this racetrack because of its sandy content," said Ziadie. "This year the track doesn't seem as sandy so I look for him to run a much better race this time."

As of Friday, 15 2-year-old colts and geldings were still be considered for the In Reality. Along with Ziadie's pair they included Booklet, Carey's Gold, Mountain Forum, Bog Hunter, Thiscannonsloaded, O'Rocky, Lead by Example, Major Mecke, Gold Phantom, Moonluck, Rulebook, Case in Hand, and Jet Thrust.

A field of only seven or eight is anticipated for the My Dear Girl. Bold World, Sweep Princess, Ms Brookski, Blissful Kiss, Midnight Charmer and Ziadie's duo are currently listed as probable starters.
