Zia Park: Hayley's Halo collects fifth stakes win of year in Chaves County

Email

Hayley’s Halo won her fifth stakes race of the year on Sunday, when she darted to a three-quarter length win over Queen Greeley in the $60,000 Chaves County at Zia Park in Hobbs, N.M. It was another 3 3/4 lengths back in third to Working at Night.

Hayley’s Halo ($4) came into the Chaves County off three straight stakes wins, but the race was her first since June 28. She was hardly rusty. Hayley’s Halo was always prominent in the one-mile race for fillies and mares, leading through a half-mile in 46.95 seconds and six furlongs in 1:11 before finishing the task in 1:37.28.

Alejandro Medellin rode Hayley’s Halo for Lathrop Hoffman and trainer Henry Dominguez. Hayley’s Halo  has now won 10 of 19 career starts, with her five stakes scores in 2011 all coming in New Mexico. She is a 4-year-old daughter of Sea of Secrets and was bred in California by Hoffman.
