Zia Park: Global Stage by a neck in Veteran

Global Stage tracked the pace and was up for a neck win in the $55,000 Veteran at Zia Park on Saturday. Forest Mouse held second after setting the pace, while it was another four lengths back to Forest Mouse in third.

The Veteran, a 1 1/16-mile race for 3-year-olds and up, was the prep for next month's $200,000 Distance Championship. The Distance Championship is the richest race for older horses at Zia.

Global Stage ($19) was hung wide into the first turn of the Veteran, and raced in second behind Forest Mouse, who led through fractions of 25.74 seconds for the opening quarter, 50.88 for the half-mile and 1:14.86 for six furlongs. Global Stage edged past the leader, and covered the distance on a fast track in 1:45.50.

Ken Tohill rode the winner for David Wolochuk and Patrick Montoya. Wolochuk also trains Global Stage.
