Zia Park cancels rest of Saturday card


Zia Park in Hobbs, N.M., canceled racing after the first two races Saturday due to inclement weather, the track announced. The program was the first of the meet. Zia anticipates racing Sunday, when it puts on the $75,000 Premiere Cup Sprint Handicap.

The Hobbs area experienced flash flooding overnight, according to Jonathan Horowitz, the announcer at Zia. He said in an email that more flooding was forecasted to hit in the near future Saturday.

Zia canceled the third through 12th races Saturday. The track is running a 56-date meet for Thoroughbreds and Quarter Horses. The season continues through Dec. 2.
