Favorites ruled the roost on the Heritage Stakes Day program at Marquis Downs on Saturday evening, taking five of the six events for Saskatchewan-breds. Trainer Fern Zdunick saddled four of the winners, with two of those ridden by Tim Moccasin and two by Neville Stephenson. J C’s Action ($2.60) got the evening rolling with a neck victory in the $10,000 Lakeland Heritage, a one-mile race for colts and geldings, 4 and up. Moccasin rode J C’s Action for Zdunick. Striking Time ($2.70) was next up with a 12 ¾-length score in the $20,000 Western Heritage, a six-furlong race for 2-year-old colts and geldings. Stephenson rode Striking Time for Zdunick, who saddled his third straight winner on the program when Silver Mint Deputy ($3.50) captured the $20,000 Woodland Heritage by a length. Moccasin rode Striking Time in the Woodland, a six-furlong race for 2-year-old fillies. Striking Royale, ridden by Niam Samaroo and trained by Rich Pilon, interrupted the parade of Zdunick winners with a two-length score in the $10,000 Horizon Heritage, a one-mile race for fillies and mares. Besnard ($2.70) then got Zdunick and Stephenson back into the winner’s circle with an 11-length win in the $20,000 Shortgrass Heritage, a one-mile race for 3-year-old colts and geldings. Joe’s Little Tart ($11.50) stopped a perfect day for the favorites in the $20,000 Parkland Heritage, a one-mile race for 3-year-old fillies. Samaroo rode Joe’s Lil Tart to a neck win for trainer George Gervais.
