Zarb's Luck takes Delta Gold Cup

Zarb's Luck was able to stretch his speed around two turns to win Saturday night's $100,000 at Delta Downs by a neck over Spritely Walker. It was another length and three quarters back in third to Pink Duck.

Zarb's Luck($8.40) has recorded his biggest wins around one turn, but he was effective around two in the one-mile Gold Cup, when he led throughout. Ridden by Guy Smith, he covered the distance in 1:38.72.

Zarb's Luck earned $60,000 for the win, which was his eighth from 32 starts. He has now earned $353,605. Scott Beoudreaux owns the horse with trainer Edward Johnston.

* Nitro Chip($3.20) picked up his second straight stakes win when he led throughout for a length and three quarter win in the $50,000 Calcasieu on the Gold Cup undercard. Ten Times Better finished second in the five furlong race that went in 59.75 seconds. Kirk LeBlanc rode Nitro Chip for trainer Samuel Breaux.
