Jockey Tyler Gaffalione rides Yourdreamsormine to victory in the Groomstick Stakes on Saturday.

Yourdreamsormine continued his surge toward the top of the older-horse ranks on the south Florida circuit by swooping past a duo of dueling leaders in winning the $75,000 Groomstick Stakes on Saturday at Gulfstream Park.

With leading jockey Tyler Gaffalione aboard for N.T.S. Stable and trainer Milt Wolfson, Yourdreamsormine finished seven furlongs in 1:22.22 over a track rated good, prevailing by 1 3/4 lengths over El Deal, the 6-5 favorite in a field of six. He returned $6.80 as second choice and earned a 94 Beyer Speed Figure.

El Deal dueled inside of Mr. Baker for much of the way before Gaffalione guided his mount to the middle of the track to win going away.

Yourdreamsormine, a 4-year-old colt by Mr. Sekiguchi, was purchased privately in the spring after owner-trainer Bill Kaplan retired. He now has finished first or second in all five starts for new connections and is 6 for 27 overall with earnings of $344,185.

“I tell you what, I haven’t had this much fun in a long time, and I’ve been in the game a long time,” Wolfson told Gulf publicity afterward. “This horse has so much heart. That’s half the battle. You have to respect a horse like that.”
