You to rest until next year

You, who finished second in Sunday's Grade 1 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland, will not run in the Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Distaff and will be rested until next spring, trainer Bobby Frankel said Monday.

"I don't think she can win, and if she can't win, why run?" Frankel said. "She ran a great race yesterday. But there's going to be a lot of pace in the Distaff. I'm a realist."

Frankel initially thought he would give You a rest after her third-place finish in the Grade 1 Alabama Stakes in August at Saratoga, but she trained so well following that race that Frankel ran her in both the Grade 1 Ruffian Handicap at Belmont Park on Sept. 14 and then the Spinster.

The Distaff is shaping up as one of the strongest races of this year's World Thoroughbred Championships at Arlington Park. The field is expected to include Azeri, Farda Amiga, Imperial Gesture, Summer Colony, and Take Charge Lady.

You, a 3-year-old daughter of You and I owned by Ed Gann, won four times in eight starts this year. Each win was in a Grade 1 race - the Las Virgenes Stakes, Santa Anita Oaks, Acorn, and Test.
